Zachęta National Art Gallery, pl. Małachowskiego 3 (1 km from the accomodation place)

Zachęta Building was constructed in 1900 as home to the Association for Encouragement of the Fine Arts. On December 16th, 1922, Gabriel Narutowicz, the first President of the II Republic of Poland, was assassinated at Zachęta.

Zachęta is located in the centre of Warsaw, close to the Saski Garden. In 1965 it was listed as historic building. It was one of the very few buldings in this part of Warsaw which survived World War II without any serious damage.

During the Conference, Zachęta will display its this year's most important exhibition called Gender Check. Feminity and masculinity in the Eastern European Art (currently it is displayed at the Contemporary Art Museum in Vienna). The exhibition will focus on the art from Central and Eastern Europe. It will show social roles, gender categories and links between art and historical reality.

Bunk beds in multiple rooms. Included in the price of stay: breakfast (buffet) and bed linen. Towels are provided only in rooms with private bathrooms. People accomodated in the remaining rooms need to bring their own towels or rent them for additional non-refundable fee of 4 zł. In multiple rooms there are closets for personal belongins with a padlock (fee for padlock and key is 20 zł and it is refunded on departure). There are computers with Internet access and WiFi available at the hostel.

Public kitchen is equipped with a fridge, microwave oven, coffee machine, kettle, plates and cutlery. Tea and coffee are available in the kitchen throughout the day. There are 12 showers available for hostel guests.

Guests arriving before the check-in may leave their luggage in a free-of-charge luggage room. If the room is ready before 3pm, you can move in earlier (but not earlier than on 12pm).

The entire hostel is non-smoking zone, however there are designated places where smoking is allowed.

As of February 20, 2010, the following rooms are available:

  • 6 person room (bunk beds) with shared bathroom
  • 8 person room (bunk beds) with shared bathroom - 7 places free
  • double room with shared bathroom - 1 place free

If you can't find a suitable room for yourself, please contact the Organisers - we'll try to solve the problem.The room bookings are preliminary and may be subject to changes if some of the participants don't pay their participation fee in time. The deadline is March 19th (on this day the money needs to be at our bank account).

Getting there

Entry to the hostel is situated in front of the building with address Sewerynów 6 (next to an orange wall).

  • bus line 102 (from the Central Station - stop close to the main hall, between the station and Złote Tarasy shopping mall) - we get off at the stop Nowy Świat 03. We go to the other side of the street, cross Nowy Świat street and we keep going until we reach crossing with Kopernika street. There we turn left and a moment later turn right (Bartoszewicza street) and then left to Sewerynów street.
  • bus line 175 (from the airport or Central Station) - we get off at the Uniwersytet stop. Next to the Copernicus monument we turm left, pass Karasia street and the next street will be Sewerynów.
  • walking from the Central Station (ca. 2 km) - we follow Jerozolimskie Avenue up to Rotunda building, we turn left, then we follow Marszałkowska street until we reach Świętokrzyska street (next to McDonald's restaurant), here we turn right, we pass the crossing with Nowy Świat street, go straight up to Karasia street where we turn left, we go a bit further and turn right (Bartoszewicza street) and then left (Sewerynów street).
